Shocking footage of Baltimore's Key Bridge Collapses after Ship Crash

A tragic incident occurred in Baltimore, Maryland, when a container ship collided early Tuesday morning with the Francis Scott Key Bridge, an integral part of the city's infrastructure.
Shocking footage revealed the moment the bridge's steel arches broke and plunged into the Patapsco River around 1.30am. According to a video sent to X, the vessel appears to have struck one of the abutments of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The ship caught fire and thick black smoke rose.
Maryland's governor declared a state of emergency after the incident. "I have declared a state of emergency here in Maryland and we are working with an interagency team to quickly mobilize federal resources from the Biden administration," Gov. Wes Moore X wrote.
The aftermath prompted an immediate response from both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Maryland Department of Transportation, though information from officials was initially scarce.
The collision not only damaged the integrity of the bridge but also resulted in several vehicles falling into the water below. Baltimore City Police who were notified of the incident. At 1:35 a.m. possible persons were reported in the river requiring immediate rescue efforts.
Kevin Cartwright of the Baltimore Fire Department described the scene as an "developing mass casualty" and efforts focused on rescuing at least seven people who were reportedly in the water after the bridge partially collapsed.
